As a young adult, I spent years playing in hardcore punk bands, professional wrestling in independent promotions, and drawing my own comics for fun. As a graphic designer, these three subcultures influence my design process. Understanding the psychology of professional wrestling and comics helps me to tell a story visually by creating a context through symbolism. The punk rock scene has taught me unorthodox ways of arranging visual information to convey powerful ideas. Fusing the philosophy of these subcultures with the fundamentals of design allows me to create both an engaging aesthetic, as well as, a conceptual ground to further my exploration of design.
